With 14,500sq.kms., the Serengeti plains is undoubtedly the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and the greatest concentration of plains game anywhere. It lies between the shores of Lake Victoria in the east and the Maasai Mara to the north west. Serengeti is renown for its black-manned lion and other predators including wild dog, spotted hyena, jackal, cheetah and leopard. The wealth of birdlife is of a special interest including colorful rollers, bee- eaters, kingfishers and sunbirds and a large number of birds of prey. During May and June, Lake Ndutu at the foot of the Ngorongoro highlands, is the starting point for one of the great natural wonders of nature- the famous annual migration.

Believed to contain the largest concentration of wildlife on earth. Starting point for the famous Nearly 2 million wildbeest and a quarter of a million Zebra move in winding columns several miles in length towards the Maasai Mara. Annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. Most lodges are located in the best area for game viewing. Between the Ngorongoro conservation area and the Serengeti National Park lies Olduvai Gorge. This remote spot has become famous as the archaeological site where Dr. Mary Leakey in 1959 discovered Australopithecus Boisei dated 1.5 million years ago.
A museum overlooking the gorge displays many of their finds such as prehistoric elephant, enormous ostrich and giant horned sheep, explaining the significance of the geology, fossils and artifacts.
Set high on the saddle of tree-clad ridge commanding panoramic views over the endlessly rolling reaches and volcanic reefs of the Serengeti, the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is the ultimate fusion of traditional African architecture and world-class style. Drawing its inspiration from the circular ‘Rondavel’ dwellings and winding paths of a traditional Maasai village, the Lodge features thickly-thatched, stone-built rooms, spaciously set amongst groves of indigenous trees that are cooled by sparkling streams and papyrus-fringed ponds. The circular bar, its roof supported by massive carven figures of warriors, maidens and elders, looks out over the sky-blue, ‘vanishing horizon’ swimming pool towards the miles of lion-gold savannah that lie below, wherein is
enacted the thunderous theatre of the million-strong wildebeest migration. As for views, from lilac-streaked sunrise, to diamond-domed night, the sparingly sensational Serengeti delivers a series of timeless volcanic vistas that are second to none.
Looking out over the seemingly endless plains, this hill side Lodge is tranquil oasis set in thousands of square km of the Serengeti National Park. With its 75 rooms and the swimming pool, that lodge offers the same comfort as Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. It is located 35 km from the Seronera airstrip.
